Terms of Service

Plain language, because you should be able to read this in two minutes. Using any tool on this site means you accept what is below. If something here does not work for you, write to us rather than guessing.

What this is

TranslationForFree is a set of free translation tools. There is no account, no signup, no trial, and no card. Nothing is held back behind a paywall today. We would rather tell you plainly that this may change one day than pretend it cannot: if a paid tier ever appears, it will be for jobs bigger than what is here now, and the tools you use today are not the thing we would put behind it.

Your files stay yours

We claim no ownership of anything you upload and no rights over anything you get back. Your original is yours, and the translation is yours to use however you like, including commercially. We do not need a licence to your content, because we do not keep your content. What happens to a file while it is being translated is set out in the privacy policy.

What we ask of you

  • 1. Upload only content you have the right to upload. If a document is not yours to share with a third-party AI service, this is not the place for it.
  • 2. Do not use these tools for anything illegal, or to produce material that is illegal where you are.
  • 3. Use the site as a person, not as a pipeline. Scripting it, scraping it, or running it in an automated loop is not what the free tier is for, and it is the one thing that would force limits on everybody else.
  • 4. Do not try to break it, overload it, or work around the limits below. If you need more than they allow, ask. That route genuinely exists and it is faster than finding a way around.

The limits, and why they exist

Every translation costs us money at the API. The limits are there so the site can stay free for everyone, not to push you toward a paid plan that does not exist. The shared ones are:

  • •up to 10 files in one batch
  • •up to 12,000 translatable units across a batch, counting subtitle cues, rows or segments rather than files, because ten short clips and ten long films are not the same job
  • •up to 5 target languages in a single run
  • •a per-file size cap that varies by format, since a slide deck full of images and a JSON file are not comparable. Each tool states its own on the page.

If your job is bigger than that, or in a format we do not support yet, tell us about it on the contact page. That page is a pressure valve, not a sales funnel.

What machine translation can and cannot do

This is the part most terms pages bury, so we will put it up front. These tools use an AI model. It is good, and it is not perfect. It can misread tone, miss an idiom, mishandle a name, or leave something untranslated.

Two things follow from that, and we act on both. First, we publish our accuracy measurements instead of asking you to take our word for it, on the eval results page. Second, when a translation comes back incomplete, the tool tells you so on the result itself rather than calling a partial job a success.

What that cannot cover is judgment. For anything where a wrong word carries real consequences, such as a contract, a medical document, a legal filing, or safety instructions, have a qualified human review the result before you rely on it. Use these tools as a very fast first draft, not as a final authority.

No warranty

The site is provided as it is, with no guarantee that it will be available, that a translation will be accurate, or that it will suit any particular purpose. We do not promise uptime, and we do not offer a service level agreement. It is a free service run by a small team, and it can be down.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from using the site or relying on a translation it produced. Since we keep no copy of your file, we also cannot recover one for you: keep your original.

Third-party services

Translation runs on Google's Gemini API, and scanned PDFs pass through NVIDIA's OCR API first. Their terms govern their part of the work. Which service sees what, and when, is set out in the privacy policy.

Changes, and stopping

We may change these terms, change the tools, or change the limits. When we do, the date at the top of this page moves. We may also stop offering a tool, or the whole site. Because there is no account and nothing of yours is stored here, that would cost you nothing but a bookmark.

We can decline service to anyone who is using the site in a way that puts it at risk for everyone else, which in practice means automated abuse and nothing else.
