How the Word translator works

A .docx file is a package of XML where the words live separately from the formatting. Instead of converting your document to another format and back (which loses layout), this tool translates the text in place and rebuilds the file with every font, color, style, table, and header exactly where it was. Bold and emphasized words are repositioned to fit the grammar of the target language, so the result reads naturally instead of word-for-word.

What gets translated

  • Body text, headings, and lists
  • Tables (every cell)
  • Headers and footers

What stays untouched

  • All fonts, colors, sizes, bold/italic/underline, and paragraph styles
  • Tables, images, page layout, and section breaks
  • URLs, email addresses, and numbers

Tips for the best translation

  • Add a glossary for brand names and product terms so they stay consistent
  • Pick a specific target variant (e.g. Latin American vs European Spanish) for the right tone
  • Leave source language on Auto-detect if you are not sure
  • Save macro-enabled documents as a normal .docx before uploading

Frequently asked questions

Will translating my Word document change the formatting?

No. A .docx file keeps its words separately from its design, so this tool replaces only the text and rebuilds the same file. Every font, color, size, bold and italic run, paragraph style, table, image, header, footer, and page break comes back exactly where it was.

What parts of the document get translated?

Body text, headings, lists, every table cell, and the text in headers and footers. URLs, email addresses, and numbers are left alone on purpose.

How big a Word file can I upload?

Up to 15 MB per .docx file. If yours is larger, it is usually images rather than text, so compressing the pictures in Word will normally bring it under the limit.

Can I translate a .doc or .docm file?

Not directly. Open it in Word and use File then Save As to save a normal .docx first, then upload that. Macro-enabled .docm files need the same step.

Can I keep brand names and product terms untranslated?

Yes. Add them to the glossary before you translate, one term per line, and they stay consistent everywhere they appear in the document.

Do I need an account, and is it really free?

No account, no email, no signup. The Word translator is free to use and there is nothing to install.

Are my documents stored after translation?

No. Your file is processed in memory to produce the translation and is not kept afterwards. Your content is never used for training and is not shared with third parties.
